Imphal:The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has withdrawn its recent affiliation granted to 25 schools in Manipur, citing issues with the submitted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) not being issued by authorized state functionaries. This cancellation affects particularly 10 schools in Kangpokpi and 4 Churachandpur districts who were granted affiliation after May 3.

The CBSE’s decision arrived amidst escalating tensions and disputes over the recent affiliations granted to these schools, marking a contentious shift from the state board to the central education system.

This gains significance when seen in the backdrop of the ongoing ethnic unrest, with the valley-dominant Meiteis and Kukis-Zo factions advocating for separate administrative entities within Manipur.

The Manipur Education Department clarified that no NOCs were issued for CBSE affiliation in the past six months, prompting this action.

The controversy deepened when social media platforms became abuzz with congratulatory messages heralding the transition of these schools from the state board to the CBSE. The affiliation was seen as a potential avenue for formalizing a separate arrangement arrangement amidst the prevailing ethnic discord.

However, the Manipur Education Department, led by Minister Th Basanta, vehemently stated that no NOCs had been issued for CBSE affiliation over the past six months. Basanta even pledged to resign if these newly affiliated schools were not retracted due to the absence of the mandatory NOCs, crucial for CBSE affiliation under the board’s bylaws.

The list of affected schools includes St Peter’s School, Soikholal Ideal High School, Excel Foundation Academy, and several others.

Authorities are sternly addressing the situation, emphasizing impending action against those responsible for disregarding state or CBSE regulations.

This recent upheaval underlines the significance of adherence to prescribed protocols and legal requisites when seeking affiliations, especially in regions undergoing socio-political turbulence.
