Imphal: The Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO) in Churachandpur district issued a strong condemnation on Monday, addressing the alarming surge in crimes against women and children in the region. The statement, released by the KSO’s Department of Information and Publicity, highlights the growing concern over violence and exploitation, describing these acts as a severe affront to the values of decency, respect, and justice cherished by the community.

In a formal notice titled "Condemnation: The 6th April 2025," the KSO expressed deep regret over the increasing incidents of abuse targeting the most vulnerable members of society. “Crime against women and minors is not just a legal issue, but a moral crisis that tarnishes the very fabric of our society,” the statement read. It emphasized that such actions reflect a complete disregard for human dignity and violate the basic rights of women and children, who are often the most defenseless in the community.

The KSO’s statement comes amid a backdrop of heightened tensions in Manipur, where recent incidents of violence, including the burning of a BJP Minority Morcha leader’s house in Thoubal district over the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, have already strained communal relations. While the KSO’s condemnation does not directly reference these events, the timing suggests a broader concern about the deteriorating social fabric in the state.

The organization called for swift and decisive action from the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that Churachandpur remains a safe haven for all residents, regardless of age or gender. “We strongly condemn all forms of violence, exploitation, and abuse against women and children. We urge the authorities to take swift and decisive action to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the statement urged.

Beyond appealing to law enforcement, the KSO also called on the entire community to unite in the fight against these atrocities. “It is only through collective awareness, vigilance, and unwavering commitment to justice that we can restore safety and dignity to those affected by such crimes,” the statement concluded, underscoring the need for a community-driven response to the crisis.

The KSO, established in 1979 with the motto “Learn, Unite & Serve,” represents students across several blocks in Churachandpur district, including Henglep, Sangaikot, Singhat, Thanlon, Samulamlan, Leimata, and Songpi. The organization has a history of advocating for social justice and community welfare, often taking a stand on issues affecting the Kuki community and the broader population of the district.

This condemnation reflects growing concerns over the safety of women and children in Churachandpur, a district already grappling with ethnic and political tensions. As the region navigates these challenges, the KSO’s call for collective action and accountability underscores the urgent need for both governmental and societal efforts to address the rising tide of violence and ensure justice for the most vulnerable.
