Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey Advocates Strong Media Support at Manipur Press Club’s Foundation Day

Imphal: The 49th foundation day of the Manipur Press Club, established on 6 January 1975, witnessed a milestone as Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey graced the occasion and inaugurated the Manipur Press Colony and unveiling the Media Resource Centre.

The governor stressed the importance of unbiased reporting and urged the media to maintain objectivity, affirming, “A strong media is essential for a vibrant democracy.”

Governor Uikey’s presence as the chief guest highlighted the escalating prominence of the Manipur Press Club within media and governance circles.

In her address, she lauded the media’s fearless coverage of state events saying that the role of media is very important in raising consciousness to promote peace, harmony and brotherhood beyond caste, religion and personal interests.

“I’m very thankful to media for it is because of the media that I’m what I’m today,” she expressed while recalling her early career and motivation she got from the media. The Governor also contributing Rs. One lakh to the press club fund.

The governor stressed the importance of unbiased reporting and urged the media to maintain objectivity, affirming, “A strong media is essential for a vibrant democracy.”

While congratulating the members of press club, Manipur Government said the occasion is for celebration and self-assessment. It provides an opportunity for all members to come together, exchange ideas, reflect on past activities and discuss possibilities and challenges for the future.

She assured unwavering support to the state’s journalists, emphasizing the necessity of a robust media in the restive state.

Esteemed dignitaries like Yumnam Khemchand, minister of Mahud, RD and PR, Khogendra Khongdram, President of the Editor’s Guild Manipur, and Bijoy Kakchingtabam from the All Manipur Working Journalist’s Union, graced the occasion as guests of honour and president respectively.

The celebration concluded on a festive note, highlighting the unity and camaraderie among journalists, culminating in a grand feast.

Governor Uikey’s participation underscored the increasing recognition of the Manipur Press Club, affirming its pivotal role in shaping the strong regional media as well as solidify its status and influence.
