GENERAL
Imphal: Manipur commemorated Nupee Lal Numit, 2023, paying homage to women freedom fighters at the Nupee Lal Memorial complex in Imphal. Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh led dignitaries in a poignant floral tribute, followed by a formal function at G.P. Women’s College, Central Hall.
In an emotionally charged address, Chief Minister Singh underscored the unparalleled contribution of women in the State’s history. As a testament to their valor, he announced two groundbreaking initiatives: renaming a road stretch and introducing the ‘Chief Minister’s Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme.’
The newly launched scheme aims to assist women above 40 years old, without income or government support, providing them with an annual financial grant of Rs. 6000.
Singh passionately highlighted the sacrifices made by Manipuri women during critical historical periods, emphasizing their role in reclaiming the motherland from Awa during the Seven Years Devastation.
Addressing the contemporary challenges, Singh urged unity among communities to restore peace in the State, acknowledging the plight of those affected by the ongoing law and order issues.
Concerning the influx of Myanmar nationals due to regional turmoil, Singh assured shelter while maintaining measures to protect indigenous populations.
Highlighting interstate cooperation, Singh emphasized mutual support among neighboring states while respecting each other’s sovereignty. He condemned unlawful incidents across the State, urging citizens to report suspicious activities rather than take the law into their own hands.
The event at G.P. Women’s College featured a poignant Nupee Lal Drama and captivating musical performances.
Distinguished attendees, including legislators, government officials, and students, graced the ceremony, reaffirming the significance of honoring Manipur’s historical heroines.
The commemoration concluded with a resounding call for unity and vigilance, echoing the valor and spirit of Manipur’s women freedom fighters.
