Myanmar National, Suspected arm smuggler Arrested Near India Border by Assam Rifles, Suspected Arms Smuggler
CONFLICT
Chandel : In a significant development, Assam Rifles personnel arrested a Myanmar national in the Kachibung Village area of Chandel district, Manipur, for allegedly crossing into Indian territory without proper documentation. The individual, identified as Thanglinkap, also known as Kakap (20), son of Ngampao from Kolang, Khampat, Myanmar, was apprehended on September 9 while roaming in a jungle, three kilometers inside Indian borders.
The arrest came to light only recently, after the Assam Rifles handed over the suspect to the Chandel district police for further legal action. Sources reported that the individual had no valid documents for his presence in India and a case has been registered under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act to facilitate further investigation.
What makes the arrest significant is the suspected connection to arms smuggling activities. Thanglinkap is believed to be a member of the Kuki National Army (KNA) faction, reportedly conducting reconnaissance for the delivery of a large consignment of arms and ammunition. The consignment was allegedly being transported from Myanmar through Moreh to be delivered in Churachandpur. The suspect has reportedly confessed that several such deliveries of arms and ammunition have taken place, destined for areas like Churachandpur and Kangpokpi.
Authorities are now intensifying investigations into the smuggling network and the potential implications for regional security. Further developments are awaited as law enforcement agencies probe deeper into cross-border illegal activities.
