Shillong, the cultural capital of Meghalaya, recently played host to the pre-launch of the North East Integration Rally (NEIR) 2026 on Friday — an event that marked the beginning of an exciting journey to unite the eight Northeastern states through shared culture, aspirations, and regional solidarity. Organised by the NEIR 2026 committee and spearheaded by Biswadeep Gupta, founder of KRC Foundation, the event brought together policymakers, cultural leaders, youth, and civil society members in a powerful display of collective purpose.

Meghalaya Tourism Minister Timothy D. Shira, the chief guest, hailed the rally as a “meaningful and ambitious” initiative, assuring full support from the Tourism Department. “We must work together to bring prosperity and development to our region,” he said, adding that NEIR 2026 offers a platform to celebrate unity while driving progress.

Scheduled for January 2026, the North East Integration Rally is envisioned as a dynamic cultural and collaborative movement — a road rally with a purpose. It will feature a series of campaigns, youth engagement programs, inter-state cultural exchanges, and grassroots outreach, all designed to strengthen ties across the region.

MLA and NEIR Patron A.L. Hek echoed the importance of such efforts, noting that initiatives like NEIR foster understanding and solidarity among the diverse communities of the Northeast.

Voices from across sectors — including Joydeep Gupta (FICCI, Assam), Prof. Sukamal Deb, and Col. Shanti Singh (Retd) — shared insights on economic empowerment, regional cooperation, and the pivotal role of youth in shaping the region’s future. The evening was not just about speeches — it was a celebration. K. Bobin from Imphal moved the audience with a stirring performance of the official NEIR theme song, while talents from the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) added local flavor and rhythm.

A message of support from Prof. Ashok Kumar Nagawat, Vice Chancellor of Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University, reaffirmed national collaboration and interest in NEIR’s mission.
